Lilongwe Magistrate Court has convicted 33-year-old Foster Chiwoko of Chiwamba Village, Traditional Authority Chimutu, for fraudulent appropriation of water. The court found Chiwoko guilty of illegally connecting to a water supply, an offence that undermines the integrity of public utilities.

Chiwoko was sentenced to pay a fine of K200,000. Failure to pay the fine will result in a 10-month prison term with hard labour. The ruling serves as a stern warning to others engaging in similar illegal activities.

LWB has welcomed the ruling, and it is emphasising the importance of lawful access to water. The Board further urges the public to report any suspicious activities related to water tampering/theft to prevent further losses to the community.
