On Wednesday, 21st September 2023, Lilongwe Water Board led by the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Water and Sanitation Elias Chimulambe and CEO of the Board Silli Mbewe hosted the Foreign Policy Advisor to Senator Dick Durbin (USA) Chris Homan, Office Director for Sustainable Economic Growth Jeff De Graffneid,   Chief of Party Agdiv, Carl Larkins, among other delegates from the Unites States Aid for International Development (USAID). The aim of the visit was to appreciate the expansion of WASH projects being implemented by the Board including implementation of the Boards’ catchment management strategy with support from LUANAR and Feed the Future.

During the meeting, LWB team gave an overview of projects being implemented to improve access to water supply with particular emphasis on donor funded projects such as the raised and rehabilitating of Kamuzu Dam 1 which was funded by the European Investment Bank (EIB).

Other projects discussed included the Lilongwe Water and Sanitation Project financed by the World Bank and Lilongwe Water Resource Efficiency Program.

The delegation also had the opportunity to visit the Boards’ water abstraction point and Katete Conservation Site to appreciate the catchment conservation initiatives being implemented to enhance environment management along the Lilongwe River.

In his remarks, Chris Homan applauded LWB and Agdiv on the partnership, specifically the goal to increase community awareness and build their adaptive capacity, while also commending the Board on the diverse number of projects that are being implemented.
