Water Utilities Regional Partnership on NRW Reduction in Africa (WURP) started in 2018. In 2019, LiSCaP joined the partnership and has supported the promotion of WURP since then. LWB hosted the second Workshop on WURP in Lilongwe in September 2019. With the participation of the original member of three water utilities, namely, LWB, WASAC (Water and Sanitation Cooperation Ltd.) and EWASCO (Embu Water and Sanitation Company Ltd.), five water utilities of the Yokohama Water Works Bureau from Japan, Blantyre Water Board, Northern Region, Central Region, and Southern Region Water Boards from within Malawi also participated. It was a large-scale workshop with a total of eight water utilities participating.
During the Workshop, the three utilities reported the results of their PIP activities, and then all participating utilities presented their successes and challenges in reducing NRW. Furthermore, practical issues such as customer care and customer sensitization were discussed actively. Finally, at the end of the Workshop, the lessons learned from the Workshop were shared among the participants and the future activities for WURP were also discussed.
Due to COVID-19, the third WURP Workshop to be hosted by EWASCO has been postponed for a while and at this moment, it is planned for May 2022 to be hosted by Kenya.
