THE PROJECT FOR STRENGTHENING THE CAPACITY OF NON-REVENUE WATER REDUCTION FOR LILONGWE WATER BOARD (LWB)

Lilongwe Water Board with assistance from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is implementing The Project for Strengthening the Capacity of NRW Reduction for Lilongwe Water Board aimed at enhancing capacity for Non-Revenue Water (NRW) reduction management and ultimately reduce non-revenue water as well as improving efficiency of water-use in Lilongwe City.

The Project is expected to enhance LWB’s planning capacity for NRW reduction activities, enhance implementing capacity for NRW reduction at District Metered Area (DMA) level, and enhance the dissemination of knowledge and skills on NRW reduction within and outside the Board. Upon completion, it is expected that Lilongwe Water Board using its own capacity, will continue to make efforts to lower the non-revenue water rate currently at ­­37%.

Outline of The Project for Strengthening the Capacity of NRW Reduction for Lilongwe Water Board

Lilongwe Water Board with assistance from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is implementing “The Project for Strengthening the Capacity of NRW Reduction for Lilongwe Water Board.”

The project is aimed at enhancing capacity for Non-Revenue Water (NRW) reduction management and ultimately the reduction of non-revenue water as well as improving efficiency of water-use in Lilongwe City.

The Project named “LiSCaP: Lilongwe Strengthening Capacity Project” is expected to enhance LWB’s planning and implementing capacity for NRW reduction and disseminate knowledge and skills on NRW reduction within and outside the Board.

Upon completion of the Project, it is expected that LWB using its own capacity, will continue to make efforts to reduce the non-revenue water rate currently at approximately 33% (as of December 2021). The Project has been implemented mainly for the staff members of the divisions in LWB HQ such as NRW, Public Relations, Customer Relations, and the Southern Zone Office.

The results and achievements of the project activities will be shared among other divisions of LWB as well as other water supply utilities nationwide. The Overall goal, project purpose and outputs of Activities of the LiSCaP has been set as shown below.

Outline of the Project

Non-Revenue Water reduction activities are systematically implemented in Lilongwe City.

LWB’s capacity for NRW reduction management is strengthened.

Output 1 – LWB’s planning capacity for NRW reduction is enhanced.

Output 2 – LWB’s implementation capacity for NRW reduction in DMAs is enhanced.

Output 3 – LBW’s capacity for disseminating knowledge and experience on NRW reduction to both inside and outside LWB is enhanced.
