National Workshop on NRW Reduction in Malawi

Industry News

LiSCaP focuses on sharing knowledge and experience on NRW reduction in Malawi, with LWB as the Centre of knowledge and expertise thereafter extending to the other Water Boards and relevant government institutions. As part of knowledge sharing, the first National Workshop, hosted by LWB, was organized on 2nd and 3rd June 2021 with a total number of 37 participants, including the Ministry of Forestry and Natural Resources, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Department of Forestry, Yokohama Waterworks Bureau, Water Service Association of Malawi, Blantyre Water Board (BWB), Central Region Water Board (CRWB), Northern Region Water Board (NRWB), Southern Region Water Board (SRWB), Water Users Association and JICA.

Part of the agenda covered was stakeholders’ contributions in relation to forest conservation, water resources management and NRW reduction. Furthermore, additional topics including the “success and challenge on NRW reduction, human resources development, new technology and PR strategy were discussed. The Workshop was very interactive as seen from the active participation of involved institutions. The contents enhanced participants’ learnings on the different experiences on NRW reduction, the efforts being applied in forest conservation in Malawi, the engagement of the youth in NRW management. The Workshop also highlighted the importance of human resources and public relations strategies in NRW management.

It was agreed that the National Workshop would be organized once a year, hosted by the water boards in Malawi on a rotating basis. The second National Workshop will be organized in June 2022 to be hosted by NRWB.
