The Water Works Act of 1995 mandates the Lilongwe Water Board (LWB) to provide water supply and waterborne sanitation services to Lilongwe city and surrounding peri-urban areas. Following the enactment of the Access to Information Act, 2017, and enabling regulations, LWB, like all other MDAs, sets out to align itself to fulfill the provisions of this Act and ably discharge its obligation of making provision for access to information by information seekers. LWB, therefore, developed the Access to Information manual through a workshop which was facilitated by the Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) (mandated to oversee ATI compliance and implementation) and also attended by the Parliamentary Committee on Media, Information, and Communications. Following the workshop, the LWB appointed an information officer responsible for the timely disclosure of information within LWB’s purview in line with the constitutional principles of public trust and good governance.
